Meet Me At The Well

I have been working on this blog topic this week. On Saturday I was blessed to be able to attend a women’s event here in my town, and the woman who spoke, Kelly Bland did such a great job. In the different scriptures she talked about, John chapter 4 was one of them. I just smiled to myself because some of the things she spoke about I had been thinking through this week, and she spoke from another perspective and it was exactly what I needed.

Have you ever read the story of the Samaritan woman? It is truly touching when you read it. Jesus sitting at the well alone, and enters the Samaritan woman, whom is usually an outcast and one that is unspoken to. Have you ever paid attention to what time the woman came to the well? She came to the well at noontime, it doesn’t seem like anything but when you think about it, it’s an odd time. The wells are usually located outside of town and most women would go draw water from the well in the morning and night time, but she is coming at noontime. Her coming at that time would mean that she would probably run into no one. As her and Jesus’ conversation continued her thirst to know more from Him became more.

10. Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who I am, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.”

13. “People soon become thirsty again after drinking this water. 14. But the water I give them takes away thirst altogether. It becomes a perpetual spring within them, giving them eternal life.”

John Chapter 4

NLT Bible.

When we are hungry and thirsty we do not deprive our bodies, but in today’s age we are spoiled with what we choose to feed ourselves. Why would we deprive our souls of the thirst it’s needing? We, me included, turn so many times to earthly things to fulfill our hearts and souls only to be left feeling more depleted than where we started.

He doesn’t care who you are and what you have done. His grace and forgiveness covers it all. His living water will sustain you no matter how dry you feel. Jesus shows up in the unexpected. The Holy Spirit is always present. “For God is Spirit, so those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” John 4:24. He is omnipresent, He is everywhere and in everything. He wants you humble and meek, truly seeking from your heart to know Him. If you cling to the physical you will be left being disappointed. I always remind myself that true faith is trusting in what you cannot see. If we put as much hope and effort in winning the lottery or winning that fantasy league as we did in our Father, imagine the places you would go.

The Samaritan woman is such a great example. She did not have a great track record. She had been married many times and was currently living with a man to which she was not married. This goes back to show you that you do not have to have this amazing background or this perfect job, or this amazing college degree to able to lead people to Him. Our nourishment comes from doing the will of God. Meet Him at the well and let His water nourish your souls so that you may go do what He has called you to.

“Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord. Knowing that in the Lord you labor is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58
